Why I Started Pukeatua Woodwork
I started Pukeatua Woodwork because I wanted to breathe new life into old wood and create something meaningful with my hands. Working with timber has always given me a sense of peace and purpose — it’s a craft that blends creativity, patience, and practicality.
Using recycled and reclaimed wood is at the heart of what I do. Every piece tells a story — the marks, grains, and colours reflect its journey. Turning those pieces into handcrafted chopping boards, grazing platters, and unique creations feels like giving them a second life while reducing waste and celebrating sustainability.
What began as a personal passion quickly became something I wanted to share. I love that my work can be both beautiful and useful — something people can gather around, use every day, and treasure for years to come.

Our Craftsmanship
Every piece I create through Pukeatua Woodwork is made with patience, respect, and purpose. I believe true craftsmanship comes from connection — not just with the material, but with the story behind it. My work isn’t about mass production; it’s about creating something unique, lasting, and made with intention.
I take pride in using recycled and reclaimed wood, often sourcing timber that once had another life — from old furniture, offcuts, or rescued beams. There’s beauty in giving those pieces a second chance. I carefully select each piece of wood for its grain, colour, and natural character, ensuring that no two creations are ever the same.
Once chosen, the timber is cut, planed, sanded, and shaped by hand, always with attention to detail. I focus on end-grain and edge-grain patterns that highlight the natural beauty of the wood and enhance strength and durability. Each board is then finished with natural, food-safe oils to bring out its rich tones and ensure it’s ready for everyday use.

The 'Why' Behind What We Do
When someone sees or holds a piece from Pukeatua Woodwork, I want them to feel connection — to nature, to craftsmanship, and to something real. Each board carries warmth, texture, and history within it — a reminder that beauty can be found in simplicity and that even old wood can have a new story.
I want people to feel a sense of calm and appreciation — that moment when you pause to notice the grain, the smooth edges, and the care that went into every detail. Whether it’s a grazing platter shared with friends, a chopping board used in a busy kitchen, or a handmade gift given with love, I hope it brings a little joy, grounding, and gratitude to everyday life.
The ‘why’ behind what I do is simple: I create because I love working with my hands, honouring natural materials, and crafting something that will be used and cherished. It’s about preserving stories, respecting the land, and celebrating craftsmanship in a world that often forgets the value of slowing down.
Each piece I make is more than wood — it’s a reflection of care, creativity, and connection. That’s the heart of Pukeatua Woodwork.
"Pukeatua Woodwork is like that down-to-earth, quietly confident friend who finds beauty in the simple things. They’d invite you over for coffee at a handmade table and serve cheese and fruit on a wooden platter they made themselves."
